As a celebrated interior designer and the founder of her eponymous interiors brand, Nina Campbell OBE is perfectly suited to choosing which homeware entrepreneur to spotlight. She went for Moya and Hannah Connell of Split Figs, a charming shop based in Surrey.
Nina says: ‘I loved the artful way this brand styled the shop and laid the table with an exciting mixture of textures and patterns, as well as the fact that the owners work together as a mother-daughter duo.’
We asked Moya to share her best advice on styling, entertaining and decorating at home.
What’s your decorating style in three words?
Colour-drenched, pattern-conscious and carefully-collected.
What’s your ultimate real style secret?
Vintage fabrics add layers and interest to a space without breaking the bank, whether it's secondhand curtains from an antique shop or an embroidered Indian blanket in place of a headboard. A vintage throw as a wall hanging fills a large space and gives texture and a focal point. Often you can find interesting shape and colour combinations in vintage fabrics that can anchor a colour scheme and bring a sense of harmony to a room. They can also stop your home looking like a carbon copy of everyone else's and gives a bit more style and individuality to a room.
What are the three items from your shop that would give your home an instant style lift?
1. Our vintage suzani kantha throws can be used in many ways, from wall hangings to headboards. They give colour, pattern and layers to a room and are so versatile.
2. Our beautiful block print garden parasols. Garden furniture, especially soft-furnishings, don't seem to have caught up at the same speed as interior homeware – they are often grey, beige or just a bit meh! Our hand block-printed parasols bring a sense of colour and delicate pattern to your outdoor space, making sure your garden looks as great as your home.
3. Printed table linen. Our napkins and tablecloths are best sellers. I have a whole linen cupboard at home for my napkins and tablecloths and love mixing and matching depending on the mood or occasion. It doesn't need to be an occasion in our house to have the tablecloth on. I think it's a beautiful way to brighten and bring colour and pattern to the heart of your home.
