When a collection of cooking equipment makes you feel like you’re browsing a sweetshop, you know that the designers are on to something. We first spotted Our Place’s brightly-hued pots and pans on our social feeds, and, like many of the brand’s devotees, immediately wanted one in every shade.

But these pieces are more than just cute kitchen props. By turning everyday cookware into objects worth displaying, Our Place has helped make colour a central ingredient in the modern kitchen. ‘We saw colour as a way to bring warmth, personality, and emotion back into the kitchen and, in turn, inspire more connection around the table,’ says co-founder Shiza Shahid.

What style updates can make a kitchen feel like the heart of the home?

1. Edit, don't empty

Clear your countertops, but thoughtfully. The most inviting kitchens aren't cluttered, but they are full of life. Keep what's genuinely useful or genuinely beautiful.

2. Treat cookware as decor

A beautiful pot or pan in a colour you love, left on the hob, does more for a kitchen than almost any accessory. The objects you use every day should contribute to the feeling of the space.

3. Create a place to linger

The heart of the home isn't the island or the range, it's where people gather. A stool, a bench, a small café table somewhere for someone to sit, talk, and keep you company while dinner is cooking instantly makes a kitchen feel more alive.
