The House Beautiful Real Style Awards celebrate the furniture and homeware that will instantly elevate your space. Chosen by our editors, each winner raises the style stakes, combining gorgeous looks with clever design and genuine usefulness. In the bathroom, discover the sanitaryware and finishing touches that make everyday routines feel more stylish and enjoyable.
BEST ACCESSORIES: Alabaster bathroom collection, Zara Home
Courtesy Zara home
Soap dispensers, toothbrush holders and tissue boxes are rarely where we suggest spending wildly, which makes Zara Home’s chunky alabaster pieces especially persuasive. Two or three matching pieces are enough to corral bathroom clutter and give an ordinary vanity a more sumptuous look.
BEST TOWELS: Cotton towels in Sandstone Red, Piglet in Bed
Malcolm Mackenzie
Matching towels can make a bathroom look pleasingly pulled together, but coordinating everything too closely veers into hotel territory. Piglet in Bed’s three-piece bundle breaks up the usual matching set, mixing plain and striped towels in a variety of colours.
BEST MODERN BATHROOM: The collections at Claybrook
Claybrook
Claybrook has a great selection of tiles, but its growing bathroom range deserves as much attention. Alongside pared-back sanitaryware (translation: baths to die for), you'll find pieces in marble, recycled stone and brushed metal that give a contemporary scheme plenty of warmth.
BEST BATHTUB: Heritage Victoria double-ended rolltop bath, Victorian Plumbing
Victorian Plumbing
A full-bodied take on the classic rolltop bath, minus the frills that can feel fussy in modern homes. Its rolled rim and solid pedestal give the silhouette heft, and the double-ended shape means you can recline at either end.
BEST TILES: Slim Line cement tiles in Navy Blue, Otto Tiles
Malcolm Mackenzie
Glossy zellige, glazed metro tiles and high-shine finishes have dominated bathrooms for years, so matt surfaces feel wonderfully fresh. These plain cement tiles come in a brilliant spectrum of 25 colours, with a powdery finish and gently tonal variation that gives surfaces a lovely chalky depth.
BEST LIGHTING: Murano Candy wall lamp in White Swirl, Vetro
Vetro
This is a call to scrap bathroom spotlights, which are flattering to neither the room nor the reflection. We love Vetro’s Murano sconces, which bring Venetian glassmaking to the bathroom in mouth-blown opal shades finished with a milky swirl. At just 14cm across, even the tiniest of spaces can accommodate a pair.
The team swooned when we first saw this design, featuring a chunky lever and slightly nautical profile, and all agreed it was sure to give even the plainest basin a little pizzazz. Brushed brass is our favourite finish for a bathroom too: softer, warmer and a little less showy than high-shine gold.
BEST TECH FIND: Shower head 2.0 in Matt Beige, Hello Klean
Hello Klean
Hello Klean's filtered shower head screws onto a standard half-inch hose and helps reduce free chlorine, heavy metals, rust and other impurities, which is good for your bathroom and even better for your skin and hair. Installation is tool-free and takes only a moment, making it a painless upgrade to your everyday routine.
BEST CLASSIC BATHROOM: The collections at Ashbee and Stone
Brent Darby
Offering a particularly well-judged take on classic bathroom design that feels refined without being wildly overpriced, this retailer’s taps, showers, radiators and accessories all share the same traditional vocabulary. With them, you can build a room gradually and still end up with a convincing sense of continuity.
BEST BASIN: Edwardian pedestal basin, Burlington at Easy Bathrooms
Easy Bathrooms
When so many modern bathrooms default to wall-hung everything, a pedestal basin feels reassuringly substantial. This handsome design from Burlington, our go-to for traditional bathroom furniture, has a crisp square basin with proper period proportions, all within a relatively modest footprint.
'A tiny ceramic bathtub for your soap is exactly the level of unnecessary whimsy we love. Villa Bologna first designed these sweet ceramic soap dishes in the 1970s and they are still handmade and hand-painted in Malta today. They feel more like a little treasure picked up on your travels than an everyday bathroom accessory.' – Rachel Edwards, style & interiors editor.
