From silky-smooth sateen to cozy flannel, these are our bedroom MVPs.
You deserve better than itchy, scratchy sheets on your bed at night. Upgrading your bedding is more than a bedroom aesthetic choice; it’s an investment in your well-being. I know this firsthand—as both a design editor and an insomniac. I’ve tested over a dozen of the best luxury sheets on the market in my journey to fix my sleep routine. The right sheet set lets me drift off much more easily, and I’m here to help you find one of your own.
What sets “luxury” sheets apart from your run-of-the-mill bargain bedding? It's a combination of texture, quality, aesthetic, and price point. The set should feel good the moment it hits your skin. The fabric, too, should be durable and constructed to avoid pilling, tearing, or any of that less-than-best feel. As the name implies, luxury sheets often come with a higher price tag, so you'll want to make sure they're worth the extra money.
I have trouble falling asleep, so any additional accessories that help me get settled in at night are welcome. I have every sleep issue you could think of: I'm a hot sleeper, I snore, I toss and turn, and I have eczema, so I have to be picky about what fabric goes in my bed. Luckily, my fellow editors, testers, and I have spent over three years sleeping on every kind of sheet under the sun, from fluffy flannel to silky eucalyptus. And now we’re revealing the ones that totally upgraded our sleep routines. Scroll on to meet our MVBs (most valuable bedding).
I first tested the Buffy Breeze sheets in my evaluation, and beyond the beautiful sheen that made the sheets look luxe, the cooling feeling of the eucalyptus fibers completely won me over. After months of trying other sheets, these were still my favorite.
I'm an incredibly hot sleeper, and I can't stand waking up to sticky sheets. These sheets from Buffy, made from moisture-wicking eucalyptus, gave me the most refreshing sleep I've had in my life. The first quality that impressed me about these sheets was how well they shifted with my constant tossing and turning. Even as they gathered underneath me, I was never uncomfortable. They're lightweight and breathable without the gauzy texture of other airy sheets. I genuinely looked forward to sinking into them at the end of the day.
I also tested Buffy's Cloud pillows under the pillowcases in this set and was impressed with how well they held their shape, even as I bunched them up under my neck. I was convinced I’d have horrible neck pain any time I slept on a pillow that wasn’t the butterfly shape I have for side sleepers. Imagine how shocked I was by how comfortable and long I slept.

Quince bedding is one of the best ways to get that luxury sheet feel on a tighter budget. Tester Jessica Cherner has tested their bamboo, linen, and percale varieties, but the bamboo sheets stood out for their silky feel. "These sheets are so great because they have a tiny bit of stretch to them, which makes them even softer," Cherner says. "What makes them so soft is the fact that they're made from 100 percent viscose bamboo (the pulp), which is a bit more luxurious than rayon."

When contributing writer Kelsey Mulvey put these Luxome sheets to the test, every little detail wowed her, even as a sheets snob. "Unless I'm able to set the thermostat to an arctic temperature, I run hot when I sleep, so I'm always looking for bed sheets with cooling properties," Mulvey says. Not only is the viscose from bamboo used here moisture-wicking and temperature-regulating, so I'm not waking up in a pool of sweat, but they're also ridiculously silky smooth."

Senior Commerce Editor Marina Liao notes that Parachute's linen sheets feel soft right out of the packaging and regulate one's body temperature better than other linen sheets. She uses these year-round. "I love that the sheets don't shed much, and I trust the brand to deliver consistent quality because of its transparency in providing details like GSM," Liao says. "The name evokes many positive associations in my mind, and this would be a nice luxury set I'd gift to someone moving into their first apartment."

Cherner would pay twice as much for these Lands' End sheets. "Here's why: I prioritize softness over all else, and these are definitely some of the softest sheets I've ever slept on," Cherner says. "They don't really have a hint of crispness, so if that's your thing, you may not love these. Plus, when I think about the other supremely soft sheets I have—most of which are more than double the price of these Lands' End ones—I feel like I'm getting a bargain."
Colorways: 8 | Sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, Cal King, Split King | Materials: 100 percent Premium Supima cotton
I originally tested these sheets because they were designed for my new Purple mattress, not expecting much. After months of sleeping on them, they'll be my new favorite all-purpose sheets. They're soft and stay put, so making the bed in the morning is a breeze. And I could use them no matter the season—they strike that perfect balance of warming and cooling. It's flowy and always looks neat. Even though it's meant to optimize the comfort of a Purple mattress, I'm confident it would make any mattress brand feel softer.

As someone with sensitive skin, finding sheets that are gentle on my skin is essential. I don't want something scratchy and itchy that'll cause my eczema to flare up, so please trust me when I say they're the softest sheets I've ever tested. It's made of 700 threads of long-staple Giza cotton, for durability and warmth. Giza cotton is a sought-after, typically expensive fabric, so it's quite the steal to get a set for under $200. I normally only sleep on silk pillowcases, but I make an exception for how smooth this fabric is.

Cherner's West Elm sheets are perfect for anyone who likes to burrow under the covers on colder days. "While I do love these—and I do—I use them more in the winter because they're a bit thicker than the Quince set. As you can see from the photo, though, they're gorgeous. They don't wrinkle at all, and they make the bed look like a cloud," Cherner adds. "I've even given them as a gift."

Is there anything cooler than sheets so comfy, they're approved by NASA? Tester Rachel Elliot put the Slumber Cloud Performance Cotton sheets to the test. The sheets are made from a unique blend of cotton and viscose that received the Certified Space Technology quality mark. Translation? The same technology used to design specialized NASA spacesuits is used for these DTC bedsheets. It's engineered to strike that perfect balance between a cozy feel and temperature regulation. They'll cool you off when you're hot and warm you up when you're cold. "I tried these in peak New York City winter and actually did feel warmed up after about 30 minutes in bed," Elliot says. "Now that it's warm outside, I do have to admit that these are very crisp and cooling!"

Tester Laura Tarafa first tried Frette sheets on an Italy vacation in 2021, and she had some of the best sleep of her life. There's a reason five-star properties like the Le Sirenuse, Four Seasons Hotel Milano, and The St. Regis hotels use Frette linens. "Though the sheets were cotton, it felt like I was sleeping on a silk cloud, and I didn't slide around on the bed," Tarafa says. "I was genuinely excited to end the day of sightseeing in Italy in order to get back into bed and feel the comfort of the sheets again! In fact, I loved them so much that while I was still on my trip, I ordered a few items from Frette's Lux Percalle collection and their H by Frette range to my home in Texas."

After years of using Brooklinen's durable best-selling sheets, Mulvey still swears by them, not just for herself, but for guests. There's a delicate balance between crisp and uncomfortable when it comes to percale bedding, and Brooklinen stays firmly on the right side. "Over the years, my percale sheets have remained crisp and cool to the touch, but never feel stiff or scratchy," Mulvey says. "In fact, I like this set so much that I bought a Twin version for the trundle bed in our guest room—you know, to make my friends and family feel like they’re in a hotel."
Tester Katelyn Lunders chose this set as her first sateen sheets, and loved the breathable feeling of the organic bamboo fabric. The hypoallergenic sheets are made with non-toxic solvents, so it's a great choice for sensitive skin. "Ettitude's fabric is incredibly soft, like the softest sheets I think I've ever slept on personally," Lunders says. "I love how lightweight and cooling they are, and they don't wrinkle as easily as my cotton sets. The only con I have is that because the fabric is on the thinner side, it slightly shows the outline of my beloved Coop pillows, as you can see in the photo, but regardless, they are my current go-to."

The craze around Thuma's bedding convinced skeptic tester Kate McGregor to give linen sheets another try, and she found a set that she loves. The bedding was still cozy to bundle in, even during a heatwave. "These sheets were breathable, but I found that I was comfortable and kept warm enough with just a top sheet as the layer," McGregor says. "I didn’t notice any staining or wet spots due to my nightly Aquaphor layer."

A cashmere sweater is one of the coziest, most luxe things you can wear, so cashmere bedding you can sleep in every night is definitely taking it up a notch. "Though I was initially drawn to this set for the cashmere—because, hello, who wouldn't want to snuggle up in a bunch of cashmere?—I was initially concerned these sheets would be too insulating since I run warm when I sleep," Mulvey says. "Fortunately, all my concerns were put to rest (literally) because it was love at first slumber. These sheets are the best of both worlds: They have the softness of cashmere but the lightness and breathability of your favorite percale."
Colorways: Four | Sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, and Cal King | Materials: Cotton cashmere
Brooklinen topped our list of the best bedding stores, so it stands to reason that their signature silky sheets would be the best in affordable luxury. The sateen finish has a certain luster to it, and the tightly woven sheets are built to last. "They're silky to the touch without feeling too slippery, and I prefer them over linen sheets in summer since they're just as cooling without looking wrinkled all the time," Tester Samantha Jones says. "I've had them for a little over a year now and haven't noticed any pilling, loose threads, or snagging."
Colorways: 23 | Sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, and California King | Materials: Organic cotton sateen
Cherner has been sleeping on this Boll and Branch set for over two years. Despite their luxury feel, they require very little to maintain their quality because the last thing you need is extra fuss in your bedtime routine. "I could sit on ten different brands's sheet sets and still tell you which ones are Boll & Branch," Cherner says. "They're extremely soft and feel so luxurious. I will say: They're on the thicker side, so I don't really use them in the summer, even with air conditioning, because I definitely sleep hot. This is easily one of my favorite brands."
Colorways: 20 | Sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, Cal King, Split King | Materials: Organic long-staple cotton
You'll not only find The Citizenry's stonewashed linen bedding in House Beautiful editor bedrooms, but you'll also find it in Blake Lively's. We can't blame her either—the luxe yet lived-in look of these sheets is such an elegant, airy choice. "These sheets are made in a family-run textile mill in Portugal, and you can feel the quality," Deputy Commerce Editor Heath Owens says. "They're my favorite linen sheets that I've tried! They feature a really lightweight weave, which keeps them breezy and airy instead of scratchy. "

Both Cherner and our Senior Commerce Manager, Mackenzie Dunn consider themselves Cozy Earth devotees. After Cherner's test, she found that she loved how gentle the fabric was on her hair and skin. “Temperature-regulating and buttery soft, these sheets work for both my husband (a hot sleeper) and me (a cold one)," Dunn says. "I’ve tested a lot of sheets and what sets these apart—in addition to the cloud-like feel—is their oversized fit. The flat sheet drapes beautifully over our queen-sized bed with plenty of room for two people to be cozy, without ever fighting for coverage.”

Calling all quiet luxury fans! These are the sheets I picture one of the Roys from Succession having in their lush penthouse apartments. It has a lovely sheen and is very well-constructed. The neutral color and shiny fabric do make it a bit difficult to tell which way is up, but every side feels fit for royalty. The brand says the sheets are woven from the “longest-staple organic cotton that can be grown,” and the result is a super-silky fabric that drapes beautifully. That said, they are so smooth to the point of being slippery, so watch out, my fellow tossers and turners.

How We Selected the Best Luxury Sheets

Luxury bedding is quite an investment, so to make sure each of our selections holds up to our standards, a House Beautiful editor or tester has tested each set on our list. Each editor slept on the sheet set at home for months (some even years!), evaluating the set's comfort, breathability, quality, and even the ease of making the bed. We also paid attention to sustainability efforts, wrinkle-resistant materials, and sturdy, tear-resistant fabric. The HB team is full of different kinds of sleepers, so we found sets that help with night sweats, tossing and turning, those who sleep with a partner, and those who sleep alone. No matter your sleep needs, there's an editor-approved pick waiting for you.
