When it comes to bedroom furniture, I was already a major fan of Thuma’s pieces. Their walnut nightstands, cushioned bed frame, and soft-close dresser are the grounding pieces in my bedroom. The brand’s reputation for high-quality furniture that’s built to last rings true in my book. When they launched bedding, I, of course, had to give them a try in order to complete my whole Thuma bedroom setup.
The brand’s main entries into the bedding game are two weaves: a linen and a percale. I tested out the percale, but I’m not the biggest fan of linen, so I tagged in my linen-loving colleague, Senior Commerce Editor Marina Liao. We spent weeks sleeping on the sheets in our respective homes to see if they earned the House Beautiful stamp of approval. So how did it go? Scroll on to find out.
Quick Verdict
Rating: 4.5/5
Best For: The percale sheets are best for sleepers who want cool, crisp hotel-style bedding. The linen sheets are great for linen skeptics who want a softer alternative.
Not ideal for: Budget-minded shoppers or those who prefer colorful bedding.
Price at review (Queen-size set): $205 for Cotton Percale; $315 for Linen set.
Bottom Line: These sheets provide luxury sleep with low-maintenance care, and they maintain their day-one softness after weeks of use.
Thuma Percale Sheets Review
Great percale sheets are like a glass of Sauvignon Blanc: crisp and refreshing. It’s what you usually encounter in a freshly made hotel bed. Not designed to be cooling, but easy to slip into, and it feels high quality. It’s a delicate line between crisp and stiff, and Thuma’s Cotton Percale Sheet Set walks that line effortlessly. The sheet set strikes a balance of that cool feeling with a soft hand-feel, so it’s still lightweight and smooth when I drape it over me at night.
The sheet set is also sized well, so there isn’t a bunch of extra material I have to tuck into my bed frame. The lighter color means you can see through it to a patterned pillow or mattress. Thuma’s percale sheets have a thread count of 270, which falls well below the 400 TC threshold that starts to bother hot sleepers.
Of course, Thuma’s bedding pairs well with my Thuma bed frame, but the four neutral colors and lightweight weave would truly work on any bed. I’d gladly use these as my main sheets, or as guest room sheets. They have that all-star appeal. Not so pretentious as silk or cashmere sheets, but not a pilly microfiber set.
Thuma Linen Sheets Review
Senior Commerce Editor Marina Liao loves sleeping on linen sheets year-round, so she also has high standards for them. She’s tested sets from viral bedding brands like Quince, Hommey, Parachute, and Brooklinen. Liao is also a proud owner of Thuma's bed frame, but has yet to give the brand’s linen sheets a test drive. After weeks of sleeping on it, she noted that they’re the softest right out of the package of any brand she’s tried. It’s rare that linen sheets don’t need to be broken in.
“I washed them and slept on them the same night, noticing how they regulated my temperature well during the summer months,” Liao says. “Now that it is cooler, they still feel nice and keep me warm in 65-degree morning weather. Sometimes I can feel hot even when sleeping on linen sheets, but I have had zero issues with these.”
There’s really only one thing Liao would change about the sheets: have them come in a few more colors. The only options right now are six neutral shades, which will suit any bedroom, but variety is on her mind.
“While I don’t think I would buy these again for my bed specifically simply because they don't fit my mattress that well—the saggy look around the sides vs. tightly pulled and taut look bothers me—I think these linen sheets are perfect for deeper pocket mattresses. I think these will fit my taller mattress in the guest room better, and in the process convince a friend or two sleeping there that non-scratchy linen sheets do exist!”
Cleaning and Maintenance
Though Thuma’s bedding comes with a luxury price tag, its care instructions are not precious. The Percale sheet set is made from 100 percent cotton, and the Linen set is 100 percent European flax linen. Both sets are pre-washed for extra softness upon arrival. And they have the same wash instructions: machine wash with warm water and tumble dry on low heat. Easy to do, no trip to the dry cleaners needed. Two things to note: the percale sheets wrinkle easily, so make sure to fold those as soon as they come out of the dryer. And the linen sheets shed quite a bit, even after a few washes, but they won’t shrink in the dryer.
The Verdict: Is Thuma Bedding Worth the Buy?
Yes, Thuma bedding is worth the investment. It follows the brand’s trend of high-quality pieces, without the high-maintenance care routine. You can launder these sheet sets right at home, and they’ll maintain their day-one softness. If you’re a linen skeptic, the linen set just might be soft enough to change your mind. But if you have a slimmer mattress, or you’re trying to recreate a hotel room in your bedroom, the percale sheets will offer a refreshing sleep.
