Drew Barrymore might be known for her extensive filmography and daytime talk show, but here? In this corner of the internet? She’s known for her maximalist eye for design. This is the person who has dreamed up cheery furniture and appliances—not to mention she has her own meditation room—so it’s only fitting that her personal digs are delightfully quirky. The 50 First Dates star proved us right by showing us her “Type B” approach to redecorating her home on Instagram.
The actress’s recent Reel shows her walking around her home declaring she’s going to redecorate the kitchen…and, fine, maybe some other spaces. “It’s one room at a time,” Barrymore said. “Okay, it’s two rooms at a time, but after this, it’ll be one at a time.”
Her decorating mission is quite simple: “I [want to] make it look more like a sexy, library TV room rather than Grandma barfed up a bunch of things,” she quipped. “I just want to see, with paint and furniture, what I can do.”
As avid home decor enthusiasts, we totally get it. Our homes are always a work in progress, so who wouldn’t want to zhuzh up their space every few weeks? And, since Barrymore is low-key obsessed with HomeGoods, she pretty much confirmed she’s one of us. “Her desire to design cannot be stopped,” one Instagrammer commented. “I need this energy in my life,” wrote another. A third simply wrote, “Not me literally Thursday completely rearranging things.”
Best of all? We got an intimate look at Barrymore’s home decor. While it’s easy to track celebrity homes that go on (and off) the market, we rarely see how a major star actually lives in their spaces. For the actress, more is more. “I don’t know if you noticed, but there’s a lot of stuff here,” she said in the reel.
In addition to fresh, berry-tinged paint swatches and a globe lamp she was spotted lugging around, Barrymore’s home is packed with unconventional odds and ends. Mismatched rugs? Check. A super-sized llama? Yup. A large jar full of glue sticks? Believe it or not, yes. Just when you thought her interiors couldn’t be more eccentric, she has art hung everywhere. Like a gallery wall taken to the next level.
Barrymore’s design vibes are a lot…and sure, not for everyone. However, we’d like to think of her space as a friendly reminder of everything a home should be. Though it should be a reflection of your personal style, it shouldn’t be taken so seriously. The actress’s home is bold, unique, and undeniably fun.
