We are forever championing clever small space solutions and anyone who's limited on floor space will know that it always pays to go vertical.
Well now you can save space, add more greenery to your garden and beautify your surroundings at the same time by giving rather unsightly drainpipes a floral facelift. Not only is it cost-effective, but it's an instant way to introduce colour to a small garden, balcony or front door. Vertical gardening has never been easier.
Drainpipe plant pots
Leading the way is Elho's compact Vibia Campana drainpipe clicker which has a simple hanging system – no tools required. The 100 per cent recycled pot is available in seven colours, from pistachio green to dusty pink (we're rather fond of honey yellow to brighten up dull winter days), and boasts a contemporary curved design.
It's easy to use: simply wrap the velcro strap around a drainpipe and pull it tight. The non-slip rubber surface will stop the planter from sliding down, while an overflow pipe allows excess water to drain away, thus preventing root rot.
Drainpipe pot holders
An alternative to a drainpipe plant pot is a pot holder. Clever Pots stock a great range of these (available as a set), enabling you to mix and match colours if you want to opt for a contrasting planter. Ultimately, it gives you the same ability to maximise your growing space, giving you the freedom to grow herbs or flowers right outside your door, if you wish.
Drainpipe trellis
Another way to cover intrusive pipes is with attractive climbers. Invest in a tube-like trellis and train rambler roses, clematis or jasmine for a delightful (and hopefully sweet-smelling) display.
