The RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2022 has commemorated the Queen's Platinum Jubilee with several decorative floral and plant displays, including a sculptural portrait of Her Majesty made from flowers.

Returning to the spring season after a two-year absence, the gardening extravaganza features four breathtaking arrangements to celebrate the Queen's long-standing support for the charity and her love of blooms.

Renowned florist Simon Lycett, best known for creating arrangements for the royal family, has designed a bespoke silhouette of Her Majesty in the official Platinum Jubilee shade of purple. Covered on both sides with an assortment of native British-grown branches, it has inner shelves arranged with 70 terracotta pots, each planted with Lily of the Valley — the monarch's favourite plant.

To welcome guests, the iconic Bullring gate features an archway decorated with royal emblems reminiscent of a countryside meadow. Packed with British flowers, the design by Lucy Vail Floristry includes three wicker crowns covered in sweetpeas, plus columns with colourful foxgloves, geraniums, and irises.

Meanwhile, an installation by floral designers Veevers Carter gives visitors an immersive experience to enjoy their own personal tribute. Titled Natural Perspectives, it features a canopy of flowers inspired by the colours of Scottish landscape found near Balmoral Castle. Highlights include an ambient soundscape, visual projections of wildlife, and a large-scale portrait of the Queen made from dried pressed flowers.

21 fascinating facts about the Chelsea Flower Show

'This year's RHS Chelsea is going to be particularly special as we celebrate this historic anniversary for Her Majesty and as the show returns in May following the pandemic,' says Helena Pettit, Director of RHS Gardens and Shows.

'These imaginative floral tributes are a fitting and joyful representation of a truly unique monarch, and we hope visitors will enjoy seeing them at the show in the lead up to the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.'

The Queen has been the Society's Royal Patron since 1952, visiting the Chelsea Flower Show more than 50 times during her 70-year reign. Back in 1977, the Queen's Silver Jubilee was celebrated at the show with an exhibit of a carpet-bedded crown, exhibited by the Royal Parks in the Chelsea marquee.
