Whether you want to give your bedroom a makeover or add a new splash of colour in your living room, nothing has the power to transform a space like a fresh coat of paint, particularly a new and bold colour choice – so we are always curious to find out what people have been buying.

Fortunately, trend-setting paint manufacturer Farrow & Ball has revealed the most popular tester shades its customers have been buying in 2023, including a vibrant red and a moody dark blue.

Known for its superior quality and tasteful selection of quirkily-named hues, Farrow & Ball's paint is an investment, so it's not surprising that people want to dip their toe in with a tester pot before committing to a full wall of colour (it's always recommending to order sample pots before embarking on your decorating project), and use this as an opportunity to experiment with bolder hues.

The Dorset-based company is something of a taste maker when it comes to paint colours, offering decorating trend predictions, real home inspiration and a carefully curated colour card of gorgeous shades. In 2023 alone it has dropped a brand new finish and an exciting fashion designer collaboration, so we're always intrigued to discover its insights and what has been popular.

These are three of Farrow & Ball's best selling paint tester colours in 2023...

Bamboozle, a warm, flame-red shade, was one of 11 new colours that Farrow & Ball introduced in 2022, and it has already proved popular. Its name is inspired by a term used to describe deceit in pirates, and it's sure to add spice wherever you choose to use it.

Pair with neutrals like Wimborne White or Bone in a traditional scheme, or for a more modern twist why not try combining it with a deep blue or grey, like Wine Dark.

Blues are now Farrow & Ball's most popular colour group for tester pots, with the beautifully deep Hague Blue its star performer – and it's not hard to see why.

Hague Blue has long been a customer favourite, often topping paint colour polls and Instagrammable lists. This versatile shade, equally at home in classic and contemporary schemes, would make a stunning accent wall – or create a cosy, cocooning feel when used throughout a space. A white shade like Wevet would make a great contrast to bring out the colour's richness.

For a biophilic hit, look no further than this rich, dusky green, which was another popular tester paint choice in 2023.

Comforting and classic, Green Smoke was a frequently-used interior colour in the late 19th century, and looks particularly inviting paired with Farrow & Ball's hit neutral, Shaded White.
