If you're on the hunt for a little peace and quiet, then a reading nook (or reading corner) is the ideal spot to unwind. You don't need much room either – a compact reading nook can be created in even the smallest alcove.
Perhaps you'd like to create a cosy reading nook under the stairs, or a reading corner that makes the most of unused space – whatever space you have available, we've got an idea to suit you.
Importantly, it doesn't have to be just for reading. Of course, it might be your go-to spot for a Sunday read, but it could just be a welcoming space to enjoy a moment alone or a spot to simply hide away and relax after a long day. To create your little haven all you need is a plump and inviting armchair, optional book storage, and a handy lamp. To increase the cosiness factor, cocoon yourself with a soft throw and a couple of luxurious cushions.

Choose your chair wisely
Wood Works Brighton
Creating your ideal reading nook starts with choosing the perfect chair. Comfort is key when curled up reading your favourite book, so opt for chairs you can sink into. Crucially, consider how you sit when most relaxed. Do you curl up as small as possible? Do you drape your legs over the side, or prop them on a pouffe or footstool?
Even the smallest of spaces can be a functional reading corner. Bespoke shelving means you won't have any wasted space, helping you to create a library-like feel. But if that's not an option, don't be afraid to use unusual furniture pieces to work in your space.
'A bookshelf doesn't always have to be a bookshelf, if you are compromised for space use something interesting and unexpected as an alternative. You can stack books on a bar cart, on the fireplace mantel or on a windowsill,' says Camilla Clarke, creative director of Albion Nord.
