Anyone striking out on their own, be they a city dweller or college student, needs some kind of wagon or cart. Eventually, you will find yourself carrying something heavy or transporting way too many things at once. It’s bliss to be able to put all of that in one place and wheel it around. (I say that as someone whose arms go numb from the sheer amount of tote bags carried at one time.)
For almost a year, I’ve relied on one reusable tote bag on wheels to hold over 60 pounds of stuff: The Hulken Rolling Tote.
You might have seen this shiny tote on your social feed. It went viral as a “chic granny cart,” and I get why. It’s lightweight, stores easily, and the handles are virtually unbreakable. Every college student I know could use something like it to do the heavy lifting. And after months of steady use, I promise it’s worth every penny.
Scroll on to see how the Hulken works and why it has been my best friend for the last 10 months.
Quick Verdict
Rating: 4/5
Best for: Parents, college students, commuters, athletes, people who use specialty equipment at work, and anyone who regularly schleps heavy and oversized items
Not ideal for: People who work outdoors in rough terrain
Price at review: $125 for the Large Rolling Tote
Bottom line: If you live in an urban or suburban area and ever have to carry anything heavy, this spacious rolling tote is worth it. It saves so much headache and protects fragile items with its durable exterior. The wheels struggle a bit on dirt or rough ground, but it rolls like a dream on concrete, wood, tile, and carpet.
Hulken Bag Overview
Put simply, the Hulken bag is a massive tote bag on wheels. It stands upright and is made from durable polypropylene. It's sold in three sizes—small, medium, and large. At its base is a board with steel swivel wheels attached, and it features a zipper closure on top. This is extra helpful if you need to protect your items from rain or sticky fingers. The three handles are encased in sturdy plastic, making them virtually unbreakable. Load it up, zip up the top if needed, grab one of the handles, and pull it behind you. If you do need to lift it, the good news is that the bag itself is pretty lightweight.
How Much Can the Hulken Bag Hold?
The official carrying capacity of the Hulken Large Rolling Tote is 66 pounds. That’s up to five grocery bags, so it’s perfect for long errand runs. I’ve been shocked by just how much you can stack up in this thing. When helping a friend move, I loaded it up with pots, pans, and even a 40-inch TV. I’ve filled the Hulken with beach coolers, meal delivery boxes, heavy Amazon packages, and any errand essentials. Every time I use it, I turn what should’ve been several trips from my car into one.
It would’ve been a godsend during my college days, for everything from lugging laundry around to move-in day. And if the college student in your life uses specialty tools, it’s great to hold oddly-shaped items and keep them safe, from photography tools and art supplies to gym equipment. A word to the wise: the more you load it up, the more you’ll have to watch it, so it doesn’t topple.
Cleaning and Storage
One of the best features of the Hulken bag is its ease of storage. You fold it shut like you would a paper shopping bag, and that’s it. It’s flat enough to tuck in the hall closet or the trunk of your car until you need it again, and I can’t say the same for most granny carts. The Hulken is pretty water-resistant, but when you do need to clean it, simply wash it with warm water and a sponge, and leave it to air-dry. (Though if you need a quick fix, I find it responds well to a disinfectant wipe.)
How I Feel About the Hulken After 10 Months of Use
Whenever I take the Hulken bag out with me, it turns heads. I’m always getting questions about it, or someone nearby will nudge their friend, saying how much they want the bag themselves. I’ve been impressed with how well it holds unwieldy items like beach umbrellas. I live alone, so I don’t have someone to help me carry the heavy boxes and bags. I use this to get 50 pounds of laundry out the door, or bring several packages upstairs after a long trip. When I hosted 27 people for the Fourth of July, this is the only way I was able to get all of those groceries in the house at once.
Most of all, I’m impressed by the updated design features of the Hulken. I first tested it in September 2025, and since then, the material has gotten thicker, the lower wheeled panel is stronger, and it’s way easier to fold. The addition of a button with elastic straps actually holds the side flaps of the bag in place, so I don’t have to be an origami master to keep it shut anymore.
Pros and Cons
The Hulken bag is a genius buy for anyone who regularly totes around heavy purchases. You do have to be careful how you fill it up, but it’s a breeze to use. Below, I assess the main pros and cons of this chic shopping trolley.
The Verdict: Is the Hulken Bag Worth Buying?
Yes! As a city dweller, it’s the perfect tool to keep in my car, and it has saved me a lot of headaches and back pain while commuting. However, if you’re frequently transporting things over unpaved terrain like grass, loose dirt, or sand, I’d want a wagon with more heavy-duty wheels.
You can use it to transport books and school supplies, gardening tools, or give it as a gift to anyone about to move. I promise they’ll thank you when they don’t have to do the heavy lifting on their own.
