You’ll fall asleep on these super comfy loungers.
With Memorial Day nearly here, we know one thing is for sure: Summer is unofficially here, so it’s time to start refreshing your outdoor space, starting with the pool. No, we wouldn’t recommend starting a pool renovation mere weeks before Memorial Day; instead, we’re recommending cosmetic updates, such as swapping out old and tired lounge chairs for the pool. Luckily for you, we found the best ones on the market in every style and price point imaginable.
What’s more, we also chatted with Jacksonville-based Rafi Friedman, president of pool design firm Coastal Luxury Outdoors, for his tips and tricks for making a pool look its best. "If you want quality pool furniture that's going to last, your two best material choices are going to be metal or wood," he says. "There are some high-end recycled plastic options out there that do just as well, especially polywood, which combines recycled plastic with wood fibers for more strength."
If you are planning on upgrading your pool space, we recommend starting here. Ahead, we are sharing our favorite lounge chairs for pools that are both comfy and stylish. You really can’t go wrong with any of these options. It’s really just a matter of what styles speak to you most. Just add it to your cart and order before the temperatures rise much more.

If you've ever seen nostalgic photos of old Hollywood bungalows, you've probably noticed a few chairs like these lining the pools. From the wide circus-tent-like stripes to the intricately woven rattan, there's something very glamorous yet unfussy about these chaises. This one comes in both dark green (pictured) and a very bright yellow, so take your pick. Our only piece of advice? Don't wait to buy this because with the weather warming up, we have a feeling this will sell out fast.

Created by industrial and interior designer Claude Robin, Frontgate's Balencia chaise lounge was inspired by the white beaches of coastal French resort towns. Handcrafted with weather-resistant wicker that's woven onto an aluminum frame, this is one of the most sturdy and durable options on our list. If you're hesitant to add these to your cart because you don't love the idea of lounging on what will surely be scolding-hot wicker fiber, rest assured that these chairs do not heat up—even in direct sunlight—and they won't stick to your skin the way vinyl and plastic ones can.
One reviewer wrote, "The chaise lounges are a very good-looking deep bronze color. They are a good size and are comfortable even without an added cushion. I am very happy with this purchase." As far as actually operating these chairs goes, these are some of the easier ones to maneuver, courtesy of the adjustable backrest and foldable legs. You can also stack and store them away during the colder months. Lastly, we decided to go ahead and say this is the best pool lounge chair on our list of 20-plus options because summer after summer, readers consistently buy this particular option the most. If that doesn't make it the best, we don't know what does.

Though this chair comes with a few welcomed features, including wheels and multiple recline positions, we insist that you opt into the pull-out tray, which is large enough to house a book, a cocktail, and a tube of sunscreen—the essentials for a pool day. Other reasons we're pretty impressed by this chair: It's foldable, making it easy to store; it's easy to move, and it's treated with teak oil, so it won't fade or splinter. All that said, it's not the most comfortable on its own, so if you plan on spending hours on end here, you may want to snag a cushion to go with it. Luckily, this is a pretty standard size, so finding one to fasten to it won't be too hard. We're loving this one, which feels Old Hollywood in all the best ways. Plus, it's under $100, so you really can't lose here. The fact that the chair is just a hair over $100 is the cherry on top.

This may look like something you'd see in a living room, but trust us; it's designed for the great outdoors. When it comes to the cushion, feel free to get them in standard weather-proof quality or opt for quick-dry. If you have kids or entertain a lot, we'd recommend going with the latter. If white isn't your color, Frontgate has almost 200 additional options to choose from. What's more, the brand is so confident in their product that they'll give you a 10-year warranty on the frame.

It's called the Haven for a reason. Not only is it supremely comfortable, but this chaise features an adjustable back with five recline positions, a built-in teak side table that slides out on either side, and barely-there wheels. What's more, though it may not be the thickest cushion, it is made with quick-drying reticulated foam and recycled fade and spill-proof Sunbrella fabric, so it's built to last. If you're on the fence about this one, go ahead and get it, enjoy it for up to 45 days, then make a decision.
"Outstanding product. Exceeded my expectations in all aspects. Great design and excellent construction with premium wood," one reviewer loves these so much that they said. "Easy to assemble and impressed by quality of the cushions. Wheels are a big plus for maneuvering lounges. Even shipping and delivery process was extremely successful."

This chaise is worth every penny. For starters, it is like a plush daybed, complete with an overstuffed cushion under and behind you, that you can use outdoors. No matter which Perennials fabric you order the Sundial in, it will hold up against the elements. Of course, even with the waterproof ticking, there are limits to how much of a weather-induced beating these can take, so if you want your luxurious chaises to last for years, grab the Sundial cover. If you want to get the most out of your chaise, order it soon because there is a six-week lead time.

At first glance, this pool lounge chair may look basic, but it's on our list for a reason: it's one of the best. For starters, it's covered in flexible but sturdy mesh, so it can stand up to any weather that comes its way, even those mid-summer hurricanes. Second, the backrest can recline to four adjustable positions, so whether you want to sit up and sip a margarita comfortably without spilling or lie flat for a mid-day snooze, you can accomplish anything you're in the mood for here. Lastly, there are two almost hidden wheels tucked beneath the back two legs, making this 46-pound piece super easy to maneuver and move around depending on where the sun is.
Of course, the wood-grained panels don't offer any structural or performance benefits, but they add a unique texture that makes this simple chaise lounge look that much cooler. It also comes in four styles, some of which feature a more curved shape. This stark midcentury-inspired one is our favorite, though. One reviewer said, "The chairs are beautiful and they are sturdy and stylish. Customer service is incredible! The value is excellent." Did we mention that you can buy them à la carte or as a set of two?

This set of stylish pool lounge chairs offers fashion and function, with its weather-resistant PE rattan and waterproof cushion. Plus, it features six adjustable backrest positions, so that you can experience the ultimate comfort no matter what your poolside activities are (reading, chatting, or napping). If you're wondering, yes, the set comes with the extra lumbar pillows and a thick padded cushion.
"The cushions are comfortable! Yes, you do have to assemble them; they come in a box with the foam cushion and the fabric, but it's easy to put together and easy to take apart to wash the fabric as needed," one reviewer said. "They came in a pack of two, and the color is an exact match, which I was super pleased with." So if you're not looking to spend more than a few hundred dollars on a set of elegant pool lounge chairs, but also don't want to skimp on style, you can't go wrong with this rattan set.

The day Safavieh launched its Amazon storefront was a celebration for the House Beautiful shopping editors. The New York–based brand is famous for its collection of hand-woven rugs, but as any true fan knows, Safavieh also sells plenty of minimalist and almost bohemian-inspired furniture, including the Newport lounge. Here's why we love it: It's made of natural eucalyptus wood and topped with a plush, removable cushion. The built-in side table is just a bonus. "My pool feels more like a resort now more than ever! The cushions are pretty firm, but I honestly love that. The wood is super sturdy and doesn't take long to assemble as long as you have an electric screwdriver or drill. The table that slide side-to-side is a luxe touch as well," a reviewer said. If this is your first time using a power drill, peep our guide here.

These chaises are made of super comfortable and resilient mesh that conforms to your body as soon as you take a seat, so if they look a little stiff in the photo, that's because the mesh snaps back up when you stand up, giving it that sharp, smooth appearance. Luckily, it never stretches or sags, so feel free to lounge on it for hours on end.
The best part? The frame is powder-coated aluminum, so it's super lightweight at only 15 pounds. The chairs are also designed to be stackable, so if you clear your pool area when the temperatures start to drop, you can pop one atop the other to save space wherever you store them. There's no assembly involved, but Williams Sonoma will still offer free white-glove delivery so that you don't have to lift a finger when they arrive. We say "they" because these look best in a set, but they're sold individually.

Ergonomic in all the best ways, these lounge chairs, which come in a set of two, put absolutely no pressure on your muscles and joints, so you can quite literally sit back and relax. And during the colder months, you can neatly pack and stack them because the adjustable back and folding legs pack up to be quite compact. One of the nearly 1,000 five-star reviews said, "This duo fit my deck space perfectly! They seem fairly sturdy so far and fold flat for easy storage. Also, they are pet-approved." So if you needed another excuse to bring your pup outside for the pool party, here you go.

There may be some light assembly involved, but the payoff is worth it. This chaise can fold into a simple lounge chair, recline, and survive any weather event. It also includes water-, mildew-, and fade-resistant cushions. As comfortable as it is, though, we're most impressed with the ease of storing it. All you have to do is remove the cushions and fold both the leg rest and back in towards the seat. Once that's done, fold the legs inward and stack your set. It's that easy.
The chair itself comes in only one color, but you can choose between six options when it comes to the cushion, so choose wisely. Opt for a simple navy (pictured) or go for something a bit punchier, like turquoise.
How We Selected the Best Pool Lounge Chairs

When I recommend furniture—especially furniture you'll be spending many hours lounging on—I always choose pieces I either own or have experienced enough to confidently recommend them. In this case, though, my fellow House Beautiful editors and I live in New York City, where we don't exactly have access to our own private pools. For this story, I chose the most beautiful pieces (in an array of styles, of course), in a big price range, and did some due diligence. Yes, I read every single review to make sure that we're offering the best of the best. I also looked for pool chairs made with the best materials like metal, wood, or polywood to ensure your pieces last.
How to Choose Pool Lounge Chairs

When buying a pool lounge chair, there are a few factors to consider that have nothing to do with price, although that is something to think about if you're looking to splurge or save. We asked the experts what they think is most crucial when shopping for pieces that go by the pool. Here's what they had to say.
Style: "It needs to look beautiful. If you don't find something incredible immediately, keep looking until you find something you truly love. In other words, don't lower your aesthetic standards just because it's going outside," Samantha Tosti, principal designer and founder of Tosti Design says. She has a good point. Outdoor furniture tends to prioritize durability over looks, but you don't have to settle for something you don't love just because you want it to last a while. You may want to try slow decorating.
Comfort: Some may argue this is just as, if not more important than style because, ideally, you'll be lounging on it for hours at a time on warm days. "Make sure the lounge chair has multiple levels of adjustments for sleeping, reading, and socializing with a drink in hand," Tosti says. Luckily, all of our picks are adjustable. While its ability to recline is important, though, designer Lauren Wills Grover says the cushion is everything. "Don't skimp here. The extra money for a solid cushion covered in a durable outdoor fabric is worth the investment," she suggests. She has a point, but whether or not a lounge chair comes with a cushion might not be a make-or-break decision for some shoppers. In fact, some chairs are designed to be used sans cushions. Mesh ones, for instance, naturally contour to your body, eliminating the need for any excess padding.
What Material Is Best for Pool Lounge Chairs?

There's a reason so many brands use teak: It's extremely weather-, mold-, mildew-, and fade-resistant. It's also generally hard-wearing and won't rot. Teak, however, isn't the most low-maintenance material on the market. "It should be maintained annually, depending on your climate," Grover says. Covering your outdoor furniture will prolong its life, but you may need to do more for it depending on where you live. "In the Northeast, your outdoor furniture could last 10-plus years because of the shorter seasons. In Texas or Florida though, you're looking at a shorter lifespan because of humidity and more use," she adds.
Of course, teak is not the only worthy material for a pool lounge chair. Friedman even goes so far as to recommend high-end plastic options, such as polywood, which, for the most part, is used for outdoor furniture since it's so durable. It's also composed of mostly recycled materials, so there's no need to feel any pangs of guilt for contributing to the growing amount of plastics out there. Lastly, a centuries-old material for outdoor furniture has always been metal—specifically a cast iron, which may be costly, but well worth it. It won't degrade or fade, but it will get hot in direct sunlight, so make sure you have a cushion across the length so you don't burn yourself!
Why Trust House Beautiful?

When it comes to the topic of pool chairs, in particular, I am familiar with the various designs and needs here, as most of my family lives in Florida and has pools. I've lounged on a handful of chairs, and knows which ones are best (and which ones are not worth the investment).
For this story, I spent hours combing through top-rated reviews, ratings, and tapped her fellow editors to find the best pool lounge chairs on the market right now for House Beautiful readers. Additionally, I worked with three experts to provide further context into what you should look for when buying a pool lounge chair. Their tips and tricks take into consideration weather and style. Rafi Friedman is the president of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida-based Coastal Luxury Outdoors, which has been designing custom backyard experiences since the company's start in 1986. Friedman and the rest of the Coastal Luxury team are local leaders in pool construction, repair, design, and maintenance.
Samantha Tosti is the principal designer and founder of her eponymous firm, Tosti Design, which has offices in both San Diego and Charleston. Her full-service firm is actually a family affair that she started with her husband, Casey, who is the lead craftsman (who designs all of the woodwork and millwork for their projects).
Lauren Wills Grover founded her namesake design studio in Brooklyn nearly a decade ago. Establishing her own firm, however, wasn't her first foray into design. She graduated from Pratt Institute with a BFA in interior design by honing her skills at such acclaimed firms as Penny Drue Baird and Jeffrey Bilhuber. She now has two studio locations: one in New York and another in Houston.
