Fall officially started last week, but who are we kidding? We’re already thinking about the holidays. And if the new Lone Fox for West Elm collection is any indication, we’re not alone. The home decor retailer has teamed up with Drew Michael Scott of lifestyle brand Lone Fox to create an assortment of delightful decorations that promise to imbue spaces with a festive flair.
By starting the holiday hype a little early this year, West Elm is cluing us into the design trends that are about to reign over the most wonderful time of the year. Scott, for one, is dreaming of a not-so-white Christmas.
“This era is about layering your home with pieces you absolutely love items with meaning, and anything nostalgic,” he tells House Beautiful. “We’re all sick of minimalist beige homes, so let’s keep leaning into texture, patina, and contrast!"
Below, three trends from Lone Fox for West Elm that will keep your holiday merry and bright.
An Unexpected Color Palette
December is synonymous with lots of red and green, but Scott implores you to think outside of the box. “I like when holiday decor meshes with the rest of your home,” he says. “Muted hues will vibe with a lot of customers' homes." Don Macciocca, West Elm’s senior vice president of merchandising, agrees and is noticing an uptick in “warmer neutrals and earthy tones.”
When designing this collection, Scott employed “classic, quintessential Lone Fox earth tones” such as browns and mustards. From creamy tapered candles to chocolate-checkered bedding, this fresh palette creates an inviting environment that can be enjoyed all winter long.
Of course, Scott couldn’t resist red and green, but opted for softer shades: A printed throw pillow and colorful glass ornaments deliver subtly seasonal style.
Woodland-Inspired Whimsy
The weather outside might be frightful, but it can also provide some gorgeous guidance. Come winter, expect nature-inspired pieces to find their way indoors. “I wanted to stray away from trends and go timeless,” Scott says. “Handmade, folk, woodland, cottage, forged, carved, and woodsy.”
Bring a forest-to-table approach to breakfast with the collaboration’s Faux Bois cereal bowls. After breakfast, you can sprinkle life-like antlers, branches, and tree roots throughout your home for a woodsy winter wonderland. Or, if you want to get the look for less, you can grab a sugar berry branch for under $40.
A “Nancy Meyers” Christmas
Move over, Ralph Lauren Christmas: Scott predicts there’ll be a new holiday icon this year.
“Lately, it feels like you can’t escape people wanting a Nancy Meyers-style home, and I imagine as the weather gets colder, that desire will only grow,” he tells House Beautiful. “I bet we are going to hear a lot of people going for 'Nancy Meyers' Christmas this year.”
Though the director-slash-vibe maker is known for her creamy color palettes and layered, lived-in decorating, her interiors are undeniably classic. Fortunately, Lone Fox for West Elm has a bunch of items like cross-stitched stockings, reindeer-shaped holders, and lush garland that transcend trendiness.
