It’s been 26 years since the premiere of Sex and the City. While the anniversary might have fans feeling nostalgic for the cable drama, Cynthia Nixon, who starred alongside Sarah Jessica Parker in the iconic 2000s sitcom, has us longing for the Gothic romance of 19th-century design.
The actress recently shared an Instagram Reel of herself washing dishes and dancing to Olivia Rodrigo’s 2021 hit “Driver’s License.” As Nixon swayed through her bright kitchen—framed by windowsill blooms, beachy hardwood floors, and a bold yellow backsplash—one detail stood out: a street-facing window adorned with a quatrefoil metal grille, a signature element of Gothic Revival homes.
These decorative grilles remain a fixture of New York City’s historic architecture, reflecting the city’s 19th-century Gothic influences and contributing to the character of its iconic brownstones and townhouses. Nixon and her wife, Christine Marinoni, purchased their 4,000-square-foot townhouse in June 2021 for approximately $4.4 million.
Beyond the design details, the on-screen text placed above Nixon’s head read “POV: I’m waiting for Olivia’s new album,” and it seems she’s not alone. Fans were quick to jump in the comments to share their excitement for Rodrigo’s upcoming third studio album. One wrote, “I do dishes to Olivia Rodrigo too! Twinsies,” while another mused at Nixon’s moves, writing, “dancing like this to driver’s license is crazy boo 😭.”
Rodrigo’s new album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, arrives on June 12—and Nixon may even have a connection to it. During an April appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Rodrigo revealed that the record was heavily inspired by Miranda Hobbs, Nixon’s beloved Sex and the City character, and her famously complicated love life.
While Nixon’s moves might be questionable, design details like her home’s quatrefoil metal window grille never go out of style.
