This may sound like a joke, but some of the softest sheets on the market are from Lands’ End, a brand known more for its camping gear than bedding. Associate Shopping Editor Jessica Cherner has enjoyed these sheets for a little over a year and they have easily become her go-to. “They’re the perfect thickness—not too thick and not too thin—that keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. They’re also a little more jersey-feeling than typical cotton, and they’re amazing,” she says.

For budget bedding that doesn’t skimp on comfort, the internet and our contributing writer Kelsey Mulvey are obsessed with Mellanni sheets. They’re affordable, durable, and run a bit thin, which is a godsend for hot sleepers. “Whenever I'm sleeping on bedding with a thicker material or tighter weave, I typically wake up feeling sweaty and gross. Mellanni's sheets hit differently: Since the material is very thin (and cool to the touch), I don't wake up feeling hot and bothered,” Mulvey says. “And, as many of the glowing reviews suggest (there are nearly 250k five-star ratings ), these sheets have a silky softness that makes it all the more difficult to get out of bed in the morning.”

In case you missed it, Quince has an incredible selection of bedding, and we know that because Cherner owns quite a few pieces, including the down comforter. "I am a bedding snob, and I like down. This comforter is my absolute favorite because it is an all-season option (meaning you won't be sweating in the summer) and has that coveted audible crackle sound when I move around. I've only ever experienced that at hotels," Cherner says. She may have the all-season version, but there are several options on offer, including lightweight and ultra-filled. And, of course, it comes in several sizes so that it will fit pretty much any bed.

Bamboo sheets are naturally cooling, so if you sleep warm, these are a great option to keep you comfortable all night. Plus, they're easily the softest sheets we've ever slept on. "I got these a few years ago, and still love them—even with all of the new additions I've added to my collection," Cherner admits. "They kind of feel like a more luxurious version of jersey in that they feel like an old T-shirt you've washed a thousand times over several decades. In other words, they're super, super soft." Cherner has them in both white and Shore, which is a very pale blue. "My bed is in direct sunlight first thing in the morning, and neither color fades," she adds.

Silk pillowcases are an absolute must-have for anyone who wants to care for their hair and skin (silk isn't nearly as absorptive nor pulls on hair as much as, say, cotton). Last year, we put arguably the most famous silk pillowcase, Slip, to the test to figure out if it's worth both the hype and price.

Tester Elyse Moody slept on the Slip for just a touch over a year, and here's what she had to say: "I've had a light gray Slip pillowcase for a while now, so it has been through the laundry on a fairly regular basis." Though it's held up well, Moody says that it does get a bit staticky fresh out of the dryer. "The color hasn't faded, and it hasn’t shrunk, and I like that it feels extra cool in the summer."

As summer gets nearer and nearer, we are swapping our flannel sheets for linen ones. Similar to bamboo, linen is naturally cooling due to the looser weave than cotton, which allows for air to flow a bit more freely throughout the night. Plus, Senior Commerce Editor Heath Owens tested these out for an entire summer and has nothing but positive things to say about them.

"These are airy, breathable, and textured. I love the graphite thin stripe, and because the stripe is woven in, it gives them an even more dynamic texture," he says. All of The Citizenry's products are made by artisans around the world, and these sheets are made in a family-run textile mill in Portugal. Owens adds, "I can feel the Portuguese quality. They're my favorite linen sheets that I've tried! They're a really lightweight weave, which keeps them breezy and airy instead of scratchy. They also really do get softer with every wash."

One thing to note, though: These do boast that classic crinkly finish, so if you like your sheets smooth, you may need to iron them before making your bed.

Anyone with allergies who doesn't want to sacrifice the luxe feeling of down feathers needs a good-quality down-alternative option. Cherner tested this one out earlier this year and is pretty obsessed. In fact, it's the only pillow that may rival her beloved Marlow pillow. "As much as I love my Marlow, sometimes, I want to just sink into my pillow, and on those nights, I grab The Company Store down alternative one. It's called the LoftAIRE for a reason: It's tall, but not dense at all, so as soon as you put some weight on it, it sinks," she says.

Any hot sleeper dreads summer-induced night sweats. Even with A/C in the bedroom, getting hot at night is seemingly unavoidable—until now. Assistant Editor Meghan Shouse has both the Breeze and the Cloud comforters from Buffy, a brand that prides itself on its ability to keep fans cool.

Shouse explains, "Though the Breeze is noticeably thinner than the Cloud, it's naturally weighted via the fiber fill. It won't feel like a regular weighted blanket that uses metal or microfiber beads to provide the calming sensation, but it gives just enough pressure, and I did notice it felt heavier than it looked."

So, if the overly plush comforter isn't for you, go ahead and snag the Breeze, which not only looks like a regular blanket but also works overtime to keep you cool. "For me, the self-proclaimed hottest sleeper in the world, the Breeze comforter is the way to go. Though I do feel a little chill when sleeping alone under the Breeze, that isn't something that really matters to me because I rarely sleep by myself," she adds.

If you don't have the budget to spring for a luxurious mattress, buy a cheaper one and pop this three-inch-thick topper on top. Available in both regular and cooling options, this is a great find to make pretty much any bed much more comfortable. One thing to note, though: If your mattress is on the thicker side, this will only make it thicker, which may make wrangling your sheets on your bed difficult.

Cherner, who owns mostly very deep-pocket sheets, tested this out for several months and can't get enough. "This makes my bed so much more comfortable than it was before, which is saying a lot because I've always loved my mattress. I don't really know how to describe the comfort other than that classic Tempur-Pedic sink-in feel without being mushy or too soft," Cherner says. Read her full review on this mattress topper here.

Sateen sheets are a good option for anyone trying to figure out which material they like best because they are basic in the best way. They don't do anything particularly interesting, like cool you down or warm you up, but they are very soft. In fact, we asked tester Danielle Collins for her thoughts on some of the internet's most popular sateen sheets from Parachute, and she had some thoughts. "I love these sateen sheets. My whole bed is white, so the slightly shimmery finish of the sateen makes it feel more luxurious. I was a bit worried that the finish would fade after multiple washes, but I've had these for a little over a year, and they look the same as they did the day I got them," she notes.

There is nothing cooler, in our opinion, than a set of temperature-regulating sheets, and few are more advanced than these Slumber Cloud ones, which utilize NASA-developed technology to keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Tester Rachel Elliot tested these out for a period of five months, across the end of winter and beginning of spring, to see if they do what the promise, and here's what she said, "I don't sleep particularly hot or cold, but I live in an old building with no central HVAC system, so in the summer, it is definitely hot, and in the winter, freezing, and I am definitely affected by the temperature of my apartment," Elliot says. "I tried these in peak New York City winter and actually did feel warmed up after about 30 minutes in bed." Plus, in the summertime, the sheets are said to reduce sweating by 50 percent, according to the brand's research. "Now that it's warm outside, I do have to admit that these are very crisp and cooling!"
